The quiet side of Venice

Venice is very small, but the tourists seem to be found in extremely high concentration only in the core. It does not take too much time walking around to reach areas that are very quiet. In particular, we found the northwest part of the city to be the residential area of ordinary people. There was no tourists around when Vicki and strolled the area after dinner. We could see families having a BBQ in their backyards and kids cooling off and playing in small swimming pools. We could see clothes drying on lines, and regular boats used for transportation parked in the small rios, or small side canals. There are also tons of small piazzas, small private bridges, and nice little restaurants. Venice is truly unique city. Here's a medley of the quiet side of Venice.

A quiet rio, or small side canal.

A twenty-four hour clock.
I wonder what the message in the bottle says?
Not a bad place for kids to learn how to sail.
Another quiet rio.
Private boats parked in the morning.
A local with his own gondola, with a couple looking on from a small bridge.
Kate, Jim, Vicki and Mary having a nice dinner on a quiet street.
A private bridge leading to a home.
Yet another quiet rio.
Bridge leading to a nice piazza.
Beautiful church in the early evening light.
This one reminds me of Klaus Kinsky in Aguirre the Wrath of God.
This church was built on a street so narrow that the statues were tilted towards the ground for better viewing.
An egret under a small bridge.
A cat doing what cats all over the world like to do.
Laundry day.
These boats are parked for the night.
Nice little bar tucked into a small corner.
