Vittorio Emanuele II and rest of Day 3 in Rome

After the tour of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, we spent some time to admire the Monument to Vittorio Emanuelle II. It is an immense building dedicated to the recent establishment of modern Italy, with a museum on the modern unification (Risorgimento), the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and a massive equestrian statue of the first king of modern Italy. Let's just say that it could benefit from a bit more subtlety.

The massive Altar to the Fatherland.

The Wings of Victory.
Trajan's Column viewed from the Altar.
Any interesting street musician will attract the attention of both Tristan and Michel. In this case, this guy was playing the Hang Drum and the Didgeridoo. Very interesting sound.

And we obviously had an excellent dinner al fresca again, followed this time by an evening of jazz.

I don't think we'll get tired of eating outside.
Excellent jazz at Gregory's Jazz Club.
And finally, just as we were about to get back home, we caught the shootout for the semi-final game between Germany and Italy being watched in about every small piazzas in the city. Quite a few fans were disappointed...
